Review of the Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone: permanent evolution. Sony Xperia Z2 - Specifications Will there be a sony xperia z2

Well, I can congratulate Sony, they managed to make the flagship a flagship. I always knew that Sony has a large army of fans and connoisseurs of their products, but it was hard for me to understand in honor of what? Most likely, due to old achievements, because I frankly did not understand the enthusiastic reviews towards smartphone models that are called top-end, for example, Z and Z1. If more affordable models can be forgiven a lot, then the best must be the best. What didn't I like? To be honest, there is one drawback that you can put up with; nothing is perfect. But the Xperia Z had more of them. The display on paper was very good, with a bunch of marketing names, but in fact it was much inferior to competing solutions. The viewing angles were completely useless when no one remembered them anymore (though later LG also distinguished itself with its G2, and then with the Nexus 5). The autonomy of the Z-ke did not stand up to criticism, and the water resistance of the smartphone made it inconvenient to use in many situations, if only because of the closed headphone jack. The Xperia Z also had a weak camera and a body that was overly large compared to its competitors. After it, a very interesting phablet, the Xperia Z Ultra, appeared, which, oddly enough, was qualitatively superior to the Z in everything, but was really huge, which made it niche. However, hopes arose that since the display in the Z Ultra is high-quality, then the next flagship model will have the same quality. But something went wrong and we again saw a low-quality screen. And, although the headphone jack was now uncovered, the smartphone was still a bit big, and the camera was still inferior to top solutions from other manufacturers. And now we have the new Sony Xperia Z2, which I was skeptical about from the very beginning - after all, I had already hoped twice. But from the very beginning, the smartphone pleased me more, and there are no more shortcomings that were in its predecessors. The display is now good, the camera easily competes with competitors, and the body, despite the increase in the display, has become thinner, narrower and lighter.

Design and ergonomics

The body still feels the same premium; Sony seems to have never suffered from this. But now there are no films on it, neither front nor back. Previously, the glass was covered with factory protective films, which were almost part of the structure. It was not easy to remove them, and the manufacturer’s logos were also removed along with them. But the main thing is that there was no oleophobic coating under the film on the display. Now everything is like everyone else: if you want, you can pay for the film yourself, but most people just want good glass protection. The body feels monolithic; under strong mechanical stress it does not creak, nothing wobbles. However, I didn’t really like the fact that the design lacks rigidity; I talked about this back when testing the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. The case rotates quite easily and this is noticeable, however, for this, you still need to make an effort. In real life, I don't think this would be an inconvenience to anyone. The arrangement of all elements is familiar to users of previous generations of Sony flagships. On the right: under the flap is a slot for Micro SD memory cards, a proprietary round key for blogging/turning on the device, below it is a volume rocker, and even lower is a two-position camera key. The presence of the latter is very pleasing, but I, as before, have questions only about the volume key - why is it below the waterline? It's not convenient.
On the left, under a paired flap, there is a slot for a SIM card and a MicroUSB connector, below is a connector for the dock, it is not covered.
At the bottom there is an eyelet for a strap and its presence also makes me happy. The smartphone is waterproof, so as not to drown it, floating on the surface, I would cling it to my hand.
At the top there is an additional microphone and a headset jack.
The front side is occupied by a 5.2″ display, on the bottom and top of which there are now stereo speakers that sound very good. Not the same as in , of course, but I really liked the sound. And this is taking into account the presence of additional protective membranes that provide protection from water ingress, the sound is better than that of other flagships. An LED was also placed under the top speaker, not like in most devices, but in the form of a wide strip flashing in different colors, depending on the scenario. Looks beautiful. 2.1 MP are located near the top speaker front camera and sensors.
The frames do not look huge, which is pleasing, but the smartphone cannot be called compact.
At the back there is a 20.7 MP camera and flash. The flash is without any bells and whistles, as in other flagship models: not double, without color diodes.
But I use the flash on my smartphone exclusively as a flashlight and it handles this easily. There is a separate application that includes it for illumination, but it looks very ugly - it stands out from the general style of the interface.

Display

Perhaps the main problem of the previous “Z” cars was the display. In case of deviations, the image was greatly distorted and became covered with a white veil. I already told you above how inferior it was to its competitors, but in Z2, everything has finally changed. Now there is an IPS display with excellent viewing angles and good brightness levels. Now I can say that I would only like the maximum brightness to be higher; on a bright sunny day the picture is hard to see. Otherwise I have no complaints. The colors do not give off excessive warmth or blue, the picture looks natural, which is what you expect from IPS. We also noticed new names in the new screen, for example, Live Color LED technology, which expands the sRGB color gamut to 130%. That is, the picture becomes more saturated and contrasty, but the realism decreases.

The resolution of the 5.2″ display is 1920x1080 pixels, pixel density is 423 ppi. This is enough for the display to be in no way inferior to Quad HD displays; the pixels are indistinguishable. Also, unlike LG with strong oversharpening and Samsung with SuperAMOLED matrices, there are no outlines around the fonts, which are a little annoying when reading large texts.
Another feature that can be attributed specifically to this point is the absence of film from the box. Previously, a factory film was glued over the screen, which was very difficult to remove, under which there was no oleophobic coating, and along with which the company logos were removed. Still, if a person wants to wear film, purchasing it separately is not a problem. But there are many more of those who do not want to do this, and they had to worry a lot. In addition, any film collects scratches very quickly, because its rigidity is much inferior to glass. In general, the right move.

Cameras

And the second complaint after the display was the camera. The new product has been significantly improved and now it easily competes with the most powerful smartphones in the world. But the flaw that frankly annoyed me back in the Z1 was not fixed here. Sony favors its automatic shooting mode, which produces 8 MP widescreen images. There is nothing wrong with having such a mode, but I don’t like wide-format frames with distorted edges, and when you start the camera using a mechanical key, it activates automatic mode, even if you manually set another one before.
And one more nuance, which, perhaps, is present only in my copy - sometimes (literally a couple of times) the camera refused to start, and did not start until the smartphone was rebooted. And this happened, of course, just at the “right” moment :)
However, the quality of the images now covers everything. Particularly pleasing is the opportunity to shoot underwater, because the smartphone is protected, and there is a mechanical button to release the “shutter”, which, moreover, is two-position. When I had the Z2, we went to instameet in Buki and only there I was able to immerse the smartphone in the rushing water, the footage was worth it. Here is the finished card: More in full resolution in the gallery below. Also note how the camera “washes the background” when focusing close; the aperture here is 2.0. Video is recorded up to 4K resolution. Level stabilization. The camera interface is significantly different from that in stock Android; there are quite a lot of settings, including white balance, shooting modes and additional applications.

Sound

Perhaps this is a rare case when I will pay a little more attention to sound quality. The fact is that the main stereo speakers are now located on the front side of the gadget, like in the HTC One. At the same time, despite the security of the case, they sound much better than in other flagship models, with the exception of the mentioned One and its successor One M8. And here there is protection according to the IP55 standard against water pressure under low pressure and according to the IP58 standard for immersion to a depth of up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes - doubly respect. The stereo effect is clearly visible, the volume is decent, but most importantly, the sound is quite well detailed. It’s clear that few people will enjoy the sound of their favorite songs from external speakers, but showing someone an excerpt of a song or watching a video with sound will be more convenient here than on many other flagship models. And I find the front placement the most convenient.
But the main thing is the sound in the headphones, it is extremely good. There are no blockages across the entire frequency range, which means that even specific headphones will be easier to adjust with an equalizer. The standard Walkman player, by the way, allows you to do this. There are many presets and a customizable equalizer.

Specifications and software

Responsible for performance is the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, clocked at 2.3 GHz, and Adreno 330 graphics. RAM– as much as 3 GB. Today, only one of the modifications of the LG G3 and the SGN3 have so much. Considering the non-gluttonous software from Sony, the smartphone behaves very well. However, you can warm up the device, and quite simply - using the camera, rummaging through the browser, or, even worse, playing a demanding hairpin game. Battery capacity - 3200 mAh. In principle, not a little and the smartphone lives in good order, but compared to its predecessors. And competing models are still ahead, the same SGS5 and HTC One M8 last longer in any mode of use, to say nothing of real long-livers. But, in general, I have enough autonomy for a day.

I wonder why they are kings? Phones are not their element, televisions are also not very good, the sound
, they would like to get at least one step closer to Yamaha, PS remains, but this is not for everyone. So where are the Sony kings?

Facts? It would be interesting to read.
I know about the past glory of Sony, I can enlighten you on this matter. I’m asking about now, what revolutionary new Sony is releasing or developing now? Why do Sony TVs have a Samsung matrix? Why, for so many years, Sony laptops cannot finish their own drivers? There’s always a problem with them. Where are their vaunted acoustics now? For the price tag that they beat, and in everything, there are more interesting things. I’m asking for facts of today, and not 20 years ago. And if there’s nothing to say, then there’s no point in wasting your tongue.
We live in an age of consumption and before buying any thing, every person compares functionality, design, quality and most importantly price. And don’t rush to everything that is Sony or another brand. Every company has successful products, and there are not so good ones. .
I really tried to force myself, at one time, to like the Xperia Z1, but it didn’t work out. As a result, I bought another device. The Z2 review was also not impressive. There were too many flaws. And why did they omit the story about the device overheating in the second review?
Firstly, Sony TVs have different matrices... it all depends on the model! They have their own matrices and elzhysh ones, etc... not an argument at all! on TV, Sony remains the best manufacturer, which has been beating its competitors in price since last year! on laptops... I heard about drivers... but alas, the division is already 95% sold and left on the domestic market!
acoustics? where are the acoustics? The acoustics were one of the best and still are! Now only the pioneer is actively pushing them back, while the rest are somewhere behind... nothing has changed in the sound of the Sonya! the sound remains one of the best on the planet! I myself am a happy owner of a Walkman (in comparison with players from other manufacturers, they are the best)...
facts? well ok... from the field of photography: whose matrices do you think are in most of today's smartphones? Sony has developed a unique thing - smartographs... are there any analogues in the world that can compete with them? NO! further... from the field of portable players: last year Sony was the first to decide to combine a player, headphones, speakers... and did it brilliantly! There are two solutions - plugs and monitors... I am the owner of the second option!
smartphones: who was the first to offer a projected capacitive sensor in 2012? Nokia? No! Sony! again innovation... who was the first to propose in 2012 smart watch, which the whole planet is now so famously copying? Sony! ... who created and most importantly optimized the operation of dualshock 4 with a new helmet virtual reality Morpheus? Sony! the list can be very long, because I am not aware of professional decisions, for example from the field of prof. Sony video cameras, projectors, etc... and yes, I almost forgot... this year Sony invited the world to try out a new fullframe matrix, which accelerates to an incredible 409600ISO... by the way, this sensor is already on the Nikon D4S, which is sold for incredible money like...
Here’s my advice: if you don’t know the hardware, don’t get involved in an argument, and keep your personal impressions (subjective attitude towards the company’s products) to yourself... you didn’t like the Z1... well, that doesn’t mean it turned out to be really bad ! many, for example, liked it, and many, on the contrary, consider it the best smartphone 2013... and the camera... I'll say this! you need to use your brains and put your hands to the settings, and not shoot automatically! and you will get better pictures than your competitors!
Those. The Samsung matrix in a Sony TV looks better. And it shows better quality. Did I understand correctly? It’s clear about the drivers, there are no options. I’m wondering since when Sony acoustics have stood on par with Pioneer, Yamaha, Gibiel, Lowe, etc., even entry-level? Player, the taste and color of the markers are different, but compare at least with Cowon. And it wasn’t Sony that first crossed the player with ears, read here http://lenta.ru/news/2006/06/13/playerphones/. We read about smart watches here http://habrahabr.ru/post/212483/ . About touch screens here http://fgadgets.ru/2010-06-19-13-28-31/ . And so on... I’m just tired look for links.
first point: if you think that the Samsung matrix looks better than the Sony matrix on TVs, then I simply have nothing to talk to you about! Do you like watching animation or do you prefer to watch realistic pictures? the choice is yours... further: you can argue about acoustics for a long time, but Sony's experience in this area has already proven itself to be a leader, or one of the best! here, as elsewhere, you can agree, you can disagree - everyone’s personal business, but this is a fact! Cowon?? is this a joke?)) no kovon of course the company for portables is not bad and even good, but it will not rank with such monsters as iPod, Airiver and Walkman... no matter how you look at it! and this is also a fact! As for your first link: take in your hands what is on the site in the link and the Walkman that I wrote about above and you will understand that the devices are fundamentally different! and where exactly is this development of the first player-headphones? Yes, for some reason she stayed with Sonya! smart watches... well, ok, I agree, but options like smart watches with a calculator and other things are not considered... again... where were those same smart watches from manufacturers before? and why did everything start to move with the arrival of Sony on this market? Try to answer this question yourself!... and it suddenly became relevant! Your last link does not open at all and I again doubt that there is some kind of objectivity in the sensor area! in short, Sony was and remains a trendsetter and trendsetter... you are looking for context in my words and trying to find a refutation by googling! Even though the Sony smartwatch is not the first smart watch, it is the first in how it should have been made to make it relevant and interesting!

Great display. It’s nice that Sony started using a high-quality IPS matrix with good viewing angles) and the glass cover of the display has finally lost the factory film - whoever needs it can stick it on himself - Great autonomy. It survives until the end of the day without any problems -Dust/moisture protection - although I don’t dip it in water, it’s still a nice addition. I’m not afraid to use it, say, during the rain -Very powerful filling - 3 GB of RAM combined with a powerful snapdragon 801 digests all the applications that I run on it -Quite a good camera. - Loud and clear speakers - Premium cabinet materials. some sandwich of two glass panels and a metal frame between them. (hello to Samsung with its cheap plastic)

It works quickly, has a large screen, and comes with a stationary (magnetic) charging cradle, which is convenient.

Thin, light, fast (work, start, reboot), multi-account), water-dust-moisture-proof, two cameras, the main one even shoots 4K, display with excellent characteristics, capacious battery, high-quality stereo sound (two speakers), two types of charging connections, supports additional. memory up to 128Gig. Several protocols for wireless transmission of video audio to other devices. And a lot of other advantages

Video 4K. The quality of materials, protection from water, the presence of various useful and not so useful accessories. Battery. I guess that's all :-(

Size, design, speed, display. And a special advantage is the battery.

    2 years ago 0

Powerful filling, dust and moisture protection, hopefully a battery (I couldn’t try)...

A clear, bright display, the battery easily lasts a day with active use, if you just make calls and sometimes the Internet for five days. Before it there was an explay, this is of course heaven and earth, the sensor responds very quickly, the standard player was impressive - music from both the speakers and the headset excellent, the hardware is also good, an excellent phone model. Good sound, sometimes I watch videos from it. 2 speakers do a great job.

I couldn’t find how to assign separate ringtones to calendar events and messages from VKontakte. The default melody is smsms.
When connected via a minijack to the receiver, if you pause the video or music, after 3 seconds a hum begins in the speakers, as if the plug was removed from the socket.
I hope this problem will be resolved over time.
A little expensive, of course (I paid for 30 thousand without SD).

fragile, too fragile, the back cover gets scratched when the wind blows, the sensor becomes dull.

    2 years ago 0

    Poor equipment, no dock
    Heavy
The shape of the case is poor, it lies in the hand... can be described as “uncomfortable, the feeling that you could drop it”
Blind IPS screen in the sun, worse than TFT on Xperia V

    2 years ago 0

The camera's coating is, unfortunately, plastic, which will become scratched over time.
-Plugs. No, this is not really a minus. But I would like to see at least one spare plug in the kit (on the side where the charging plug is inserted) because if you don’t buy a charging dock, then you will have to open this plug often, and over time it will simply lose its seal
    - strong soiling of the black phone model

Glass slips out of your hands, needs a cover. A bit heavy.

    2 years ago 0

Huge size rear window Sensitive to impacts - cracked from impact. Still, the dimensions are more than 5 inches - rather not for a smartphone, but for entertainment and surfing the Internet.
It tends to jump out of your hands - the shape is still more for aerodynamics than for ease of wearing when talking.
Conversations and advertisements that you can type with wet fingers - of course, you can, but not always... so this is more likely an advertising ploy than a real thing, and you can shoot underwater with cell phone This is some kind of masochism rather than common sense.

Elements of the software shell from five years ago. Changed mine Sony phone S on Z2 and if it weren’t for the screen size, I wouldn’t have noticed the difference. The sound was not impressive (it exists). The case heats up even when contact is made, i.e. without much load, the screen is so-so (the Chinese have better ones), the frames around the display are still not narrow, cheap headphones (unfortunately, I’m not talking about the price...), I didn’t like the photo quality (soapy lenses + software sharpening are noticeable white halos around small objects), the flash (or rather the lack of it) just killed me!

    2 years ago 0

Doesn't cook food or wash clothes. Just kidding) I didn’t find any shortcomings.

    2 years ago 0

The connection quality is simply terrible. during a conversation, I hear extraneous noise, whistling and resonance, as well as some kind of background, and the subscriber with whom I am talking hears himself in an echo better and louder than me (it feels like the bottom speaker is working and broadcasts into the microphone). Compared to the Sams Galaxy 2, the screen is not much cooler; the Samsa seemed to me to have richer and brighter colors.

Sony Xperia Z2 is an evolutionary update of the stylish line; there are no revolutionary changes here, but the manufacturer has clearly worked on the bugs. This mainly affected the display - now it is an IPS matrix with acceptable viewing angles and good brightness. The diagonal of the device has also increased slightly - by 0.2 inches. An additional gigabyte of RAM has also appeared (3 GB versus 2) - is this really necessary? The camera now shoots 4K video, and the battery has become more capacious and durable. We also note a full set of interfaces, protection from moisture, a glass and metal body, high-quality sound with good headphones included. True, we were a little upset by the slight crunch of the case after water procedures, the savings on brightness compared to other flagships, and the non-removable battery, which, according to user reviews, is not a minus for everyone. Overall, we recommend this smartphone for purchase. You can buy the Sony Xperia Z2 in three colors: white, black and purple.

Dimensions and weight - 3.9

Sony Xperia Z2 is a typical five-inch, or more precisely, 5.2-inch smartphone. Compared to the Xperia Z1, the diagonal has increased slightly, but the dimensions of the device have hardly increased. The Xperia Z2 even managed to lose a few grams of weight (163 g versus 170 g), and the increase in diagonal was mainly due to the side frames, which became thinner - all this can be noted as positive changes. The smartphone body is far from the thinnest, only 8.45 mm, it is noteworthy that it is 2 millimeters thicker than its namesake tablet Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet. Nevertheless, the smartphone is quite wide and elongated, holding it in one hand is not so comfortable, but it is pleasant thanks to the materials of the case.

The front and back of the phone is covered with glass. As already mentioned, it is pleasant to the touch, looks impressive, but prints are easily collected, which, however, are easy to clean. The disadvantages of this material are that the body of the device is quite slippery: the smartphone fits well in the hand, but can slide off an inclined plane. In addition, the glass may not withstand an accidental fall on the asphalt and become covered with cracks. So, instead of using asphalt, it is better to drop it into water; the manufacturer has kept the feature of dust and moisture resistance.

By the way, we tested this feature of the smartphone - the device was subjected to water procedures. I must say that the Sony Xperia Z2 passed our moisture resistance tests with dignity, despite the small gaps at the edges of the protective glass. In general, the model looks stylish and attractive, the build quality is not bad, but after tests for moisture resistance, the case began to crunch slightly when there was slight pressure on the lower right corner.

The smartphone can be purchased in three colors: white, black and purple.

Screen - 4.7

The need to improve the displays of this line has been brewing for a long time, and here we are finally seeing tangible improvements. Basically this is the type of matrix: TN matrix is a thing of the past, long live IPS! The screen diagonal, as already mentioned, is 5.2 inches, resolution 1920x1080 pixels, the display is covered with protective glass, the PPI value is high - 424. Viewing angles can be called normal, although not the best among top models. But the manufacturer still saves on the maximum brightness of the display; the screen, in our opinion, could be brighter. In the sun, the display behaves well - the information remains readable, in addition, the smartphone supports glove mode.

Cameras - 4.7

The Sony Xperia Z2 phone has a 20.7 MP camera with LED flash, autofocus, face detection, image stabilization and a large selection of settings and modes. The maximum photo resolution is 5248x3936 pixels, but it’s better and easier to shoot in “Super Auto Mode,” which lives up to its name and takes good, 8-megapixel photos, the quality of which drops noticeably only in low-light conditions. In addition to the main camera, there is also a front camera of 2.2 megapixels, with the ability to shoot Full HD video.

Now, actually, about video shooting - the main camera of the smartphone allows you to shoot 4K video - 3840x2160 pixels at a frequency of 30 fps. Sound is recorded in stereo mode, and tracking autofocus is also available. Want Slow Motion and more frames per second? Please - shoot Full HD video at 60 fps and HD video at as much as 120 fps!

Working with text - 5.0

The standard keyboard in the Sony Xperia Z2 is comfortable, it has a function for entering text using strokes (Swype), as well as the ability to change the appearance using themes. There is also marking of additional characters on the keys; more precisely, it can be added in the keyboard settings. Switching between languages happens quickly - at the touch of a button.

Internet - 1.0

Installed as a browser Google Chrome, with support for synchronizing tabs with the desktop version. There is no support for multiple page scaling or a separate reading mode. But you can manually set the font size of the text by scaling it once and then, by double-clicking on the page, adjust all the text to the selected size.

Communications - 5.0

The manufacturer has equipped the Sony Xperia Z2 (D6503) with everything possible. The device has dual-band Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi modem mode, Bluetooth 4.0 with support for A2DP, A-GPS and GLONASS, NFC. There is also support for Russian LTE frequencies. The smartphone works with Micro-SIM cards and micro-SD cards up to 128 GB and is equipped with a micro-USB 2.0 port. However, it is worth saying that due to moisture protection, you will have to open and close the plugs every time to use the connectors. Interestingly, in the tablet of the same name this looked like an inconvenience (tablets, as a rule, do not have plugs). In the case of a smartphone, this seems normal - usually, to gain access to the SIM card or memory card, you also have to open the covers or even remove the back cover of the device.

Multimedia - 4.6

The Sony Xperia Z2 (D6503) audio player supports many formats and plays MP3, FLAC, WAV files and a number of less popular formats. Included with the smartphone good headphones with noise reduction technology. The built-in video player supports most popular video formats, but could not, for example, play videos in MOV format. The player only supports internal subtitles without the ability to select external ones.

Battery - 4.0

The model has a non-removable lithium-polymer battery with a capacity of 3200 mAh, the capacity has increased slightly. We tested the device in our two standardized tests— the smartphone demonstrates excellent battery life. The device played HD video at maximum brightness for 10 hours. While listening to music with the screen off, the device was discharged in 87 hours - that’s just over 3.5 days!

Performance - 3.6

The device uses the Qualcomm MSM8974AB Snapdragon 801 platform with a 2.3 GHz quad-core processor, Adreno 330 graphics subsystem and 3 GB of RAM. For normal operation during everyday use, in our opinion, two cores in a processor with 1 GB of RAM would be enough. Cores and gigahertz fade into the background; optimization from the manufacturer is much more important. It is worth noting that the Sony Xperia Z2 (D6503) does not experience any performance problems: the smartphone works quickly, does not slow down and allows you to play demanding games.

The device is perfect for any games and applications; according to the results of our synthetic tests, the smartphone occupies one of the leading positions. For example, in the AnTuTu benchmark, the smartphone received 34661 points, and in 3D Mark Ice Storm Unlimited - 18690 points. The chipset used in the Sony Xperia Z2 is one of the most powerful on the market today.

Memory - 4.0

The total amount of internal memory in the Sony Xperia Z2 is limited to 16 or 32 GB, there is a slot for a micro-SD memory card, cards up to 128 GB are supported. There is also a “hot swap” of the memory card, without turning off the device, you only have to open and close the waterproof plugs each time.

Peculiarities

The smartphone is certified to the IP58 standard, which means that you can accidentally, or even on purpose, spill a glass of water on it or talk on it while in the pouring rain or in the shower, and the device will continue to work stably. We tested the splash protection and even bathed the Sony Xperia Z2 - everything works great, but after swimming in the fountain the case began to crunch slightly.

The device uses a proprietary shell from Sony: everything has been changed standard applications: From home screens to browser and music app. The dialer contains Russian letters, the music player can search for album covers, and there is support for third-party themes.
